Harvest trips

Harvest trips are evangelistic mission trips that ...
  • Discover and harvest the spiritually ripe
  • Apprentice evangelistic growth starters
  • Team with churches and college ministries
  • Develop “Harvest Like Jesus” Hubs across the US and the world

What makes Harvest Trips Unique?

Hear John and Stephen talk about Discovery Evangelism, church plants for new believers, and developing fishers of men via trips.

Seven Major Distinctives of Harvest Trips

1.  Harvest Trips go to harvest fields in need of laborers. John 4:35, Luke 10:6
 2. Harvest Trips focus on abundant gospel proclamation. Mark 1:15
 3. Harvest Trips rapidly saturate a community with the good news. Communicating with those in the community in multiple ways in a short time helps get their attention.
 4. Harvest Trips seek to start new gatherings for those new to the faith.
 5. Experienced church planters lead Harvest Trips. This allows veteran harvesters to apprentice team members.
 6. Harvest Trips are for those committed to learning to become harvesters and church planters.
7.  Harvest Trips do double duty by training pastors and church planters in the region visited.

Harvest Team Characteristics

Biblical Example

Both Jesus and Paul used trips to make disciples and to train future harvesters in the process.

Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8

Mission Acceleration

Harvest Trips uses the discovery evangelism strategy, which meets many unsaved people in search of God-prepared persons of peace. This contrasts with relational evangelism, which is effective but requires more time.

...that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored...

2 Thess. 3:1b

Retention

We will seek to funnel new disciples into new gatherings that are designed especially for them.  The new community is made up of a high percentage of faith beginners and they are fed spiritual milk.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.
Luke 5:37-38

Practical

Our trips provide practical on-the-job training for fishers of men.

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matt. 4:19

Value-Shaping Experiences

Nearly all mission trips are life-changing, and Harvest Trips are no exception. The values especially encouraged on Harvest Trips are urgency to reach people and to see them assimilated into a group or service they can easily relate to.

Luke 6:40 and Romans 12:1-2

Multiplication Focused

Harvest Trips will offer church planter training for leaders in the country visited. These will include workshops and practical evangelistic experiences.

...took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.
Acts 19:9b-10
